Invented by Harry Craddock at London’s Savoy Hotel in 1928, the leap year cocktail is a bittersweet concoction touted to give women the courage to take a knee. Said to have been responsible for more proposals than any other cocktail ever mixed, the leap year is a drink that a would-be bachelor may wish to avoid buying his misses.
The Leap Year Cocktail
2 ounces gin
1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
1/2 ounce lemon juice
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the lemon twist.
Happy Leap Year!
