Yaa Dong: Thai Street Medication

Travellers to Thailand may come across a special kind of street vendor that doesn't sell any food.  Their carts are instead topped with large clear vats containing anonymous liquids of varying transparency. "Energy, male virility, strength;" signs in Thai (and English in touristy areas) boast the many therapeutic benefits gained by drinking a small shot of 'potion'. This potion is known as Yaa Dong and brave tourists who take a seat at one of the cart-side stools will quickly note that the most-certain outcome of drinking several doses is a fiery throat-burn proceeded by drunkenness.

Bar-Golf: The Sport of Champions

This past weekend a friend of mine introduced me to the wonderful game of Bar-Golf.  I've never particularly enjoyed golf, in part because I have never been any good at it.  As it turns-out, I am practically the Tiger Woods of bar-golf (minus the whores).
Finished up 25 under par.

International Beer: Switzerland's famous Feldsclösschen

Most people outside of Europe would struggle to name a beer produced in Switzerland; Overshadowed by it's Bavarian neighbors, and almost non-existent outside of Europe, I assure you, a Swiss beer industry does in fact exist.

Thai Whiskey: Mekhong v. Sang Som

The primary ingredient in most thai-buckets, Thai Whiskey, is a liquor that is popular with both Thais and travellers alike.  Tourists in Thailand are likely to owe a few hangovers to the brown liquor commonly purchased from a 7-11. Despite being known in Thailand as “Thai Whiskey”, it is actually a spiced rum. That is, the primary ingredient is molasses, whereas whiskey is a product of distilling alcohol made from grains.  The two brands that backpackers will most often find at the bottom of their bucket are Mekhong and Sangsom.
