5 Reasons to Get up and Go!

The thought of travelling away from your home, with little notice, can be frightening and overwhelming.  Most people prefer to have accommodation, transportation and activities planned well in advance. The responsibilities of  work and family constrain many people to accept that travel is an indulgence reserved only for a privileged minority.  But alas, this is not true, last minute holidays can be booked easily online and often great deals and discounts are waiting to be found by a savvy traveller who feels no shame in selfishly putting aside responsibilities to enjoy the spontaneity that the world has to offer.  You only live once, so here are 5 reasons you should get up and go!

1. Discover what you want from life
So many people find themselves in a career that they downright despise, and yet they put up with it.  Going abroad is a great way to start fresh and gain a new perspective on the world.  "What about money?" you ask.  Traveling outside of the western world is often cheaper than the cost of living in major western cities so if you are going to be unemployed you may as well do it abroad. If you're unsure what to do with your career, travelling will let you spend time working out what you want from life.

2. Meet interesting new people from every corner of the Earth
It is said that travel broadens the mind, the truth of which could be left to debate, but travel certainly broadens one's group of friends.  Meeting travellers and locals alike when abroad is easier than you could imagine.  The immediate common interest in exploration shared with other travellers as well as the shared curiosity of each-other's culture with locals ensures that you are never far from new friends.

3. Experience Cultural Differences
Immersing yourself is a culture which is different from you own, even if just a little, will gain you a new perspective on your own culture. It is much easier to identify what makes your own culture interesting or unique when you have seen major cultural differences first-hand.

4. Discover New Favourite Things
You may discover that your new favourite food is baked tarantula (a delicacy in Cambodia) or that Thai fisherman pants are the most comfortable pair of pants in the world.  Don't constrain your tastes to what is available at you local shopping mall, the world has so much more to offer.

5. Escape Monotony
One of the best aspects of travel is the uncertainty of every single day.  Each morning brings a wealth of possibilities of the new and unusual things you may encounter that day. The struggles and challenges overcome create excitement and fond memories that make each day unique and not a blur of daily routine.
